Patients with chronic neuropathic pain can be ideal candidates for PENS even if it is to diagnose whether electrical stimulation of any form is a viable treatment option for the individual. Some individuals develop discrete areas of hyperalgesia or allodynia following surgery. In this specific population of patients, it is hypothesized that the surgery is the trauma that underlies the pain condition. Therefore, a percutaneous site of delivery may be the appropriate location for electrical stimulation. |
