Algotec Research and Development Ltd established a distribution alliance with Technoline Ltd, Malta in 2010.

Technoline Ltd was incorporated in 1978 as a third party technical services provider for healthcare and scientific equipment. Its intended market was North Africa and the Middle East. The organisation took up Sales in addition to its Technical Services shortly afterwards and built a large Customer Base. With changing geopolitical circumstances, Technoline Ltd’s focus changed to its home market in Malta. It has more recently added niche disposable devices such as implantables to its capital equipment portfolio.

Through Algotec and Technoline, Dr Marilyn Casha, Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist at Mater Dei Hospital in Msida, Malta is now successfully treating selected patients, including severe CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). “Of prime importance with PENS is the immediate response the patients get. Many of these patients have been long-standing sufferers and have become somewhat disheartened by all the treatments which have failed to help. Therefore to see positive and immediate results after the application of the treatment is a relief both physically and psychologically in that hope is given to these patients”.

Dr Casha is also very interested in using PENS in patients who are terminally ill (e.g. cancer-related pain) with a poor prognosis “In these situations, besides concerns over costs, implantable systems may be relatively or absolutely contra-indicated. PENS may be used successfully and at a much lower cost”. Dr Casha comments further to say “the simplicity of the system makes it amenable to use in an office, which helps tremendously in getting patients off waiting lists for a trial of an implanted neurostimulator”.
