Karin Gould

Karin Gould - Headaches and Neck Pain since December 2006.

Karin started having neck problems in September 2005 and underwent a course of physiotherapy. Following an MRI scan in February 2006 a C5, C6 fusion was performed.

"I started to get a lot of neck pain and headaches which I had to control with maximum doses of strong painkillers. I rarely had a complete nights sleep and very often none at all. Life was generally miserable."

Karin was referred to the Pain Clinic at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre and given a local pain injection with no effect and was then referred to a neurosurgeon.

First PENS therapy:

Karin was given a 25 minute PENS treatment, stimulating the occipital nerve bi-laterally. She experienced a few hours pain relief.

Second PENS therapy:

Karin was given a second treatment stimulating first her frozen shoulder and then the occipital nerve which has given her almost total relief.

"The painful sensations in my head only occur occasionally and my dependency on strong painkillers has greatly decreased. It is hard to quantify pain and you are not aware of how it is draining your strength just coping with it on a day to day basis. I hope I won’t have to have any more treatments but at least I now have the comfort that there may be help in the form of PENS therapy."
